The Crystalens 5-0 is an advance on the earlier AT 45 Crystalens. This implant has attracted considerable interest in the US and currently Centre for Sight is one of very few European sites (April 2008) implanting the device. The implant is the only Accommodative lens approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and uses the eye's natural focusing muscles to accomplish vision at all distances. Bausch and Lomb, the makers of eye products from contact lenses to Lasers for corrective eye surgery and the Stellaris cataract platform, realising the potential of the implant, recently acquired the company Eyeonics.
